Matthew 16:21-28

Jesus called people to follow Him for a clear purpose. His purpose was to redeem and transform humanity, giving life to all who follow Him. Jesus envisioned using ordinary people as the means of putting His plan into action. He called it the church. He said: "...and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it." Even after Jesus spoke these words, He had to help His disciples understand what it really meant to follow Him as His church. If we are going to be the church Jesus envisions, we need to be willing to constantly examine our lives and make sure they are in agreement with Jesus.
